This year’s Merlin Darwin Triple Crown, which was the first official Indigenous Round of the Repco Supercars Championship, was one of the most successful yet, independent research has shown.
The event, which took place from 17-19 June 2022, attracted a total of 40,448 attendances, and almost half of those who attended were visitors to the Top End, creating a significant economic benefit for the Territory.
Research also found the event generated a massive economic stimulus of $28.4 million for the Territory, of which $21.3 million (75 per cent) was new money. This surpassed last year’s event, which generated $23 million, of which $17 million was new money.
Combined, Supercars fans clocked up a total of 72,869 visitor nights in the Territory. More than half (59.5 per cent) of attendees said they were very likely to return to the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown next year.
The Net Promoter Score (NPS) was 60.9, and attendee satisfaction was 8.5 out of 10. An NPS above 50 is deemed as ‘excellent’.
The Merlin Darwin Triple Crown is delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) on behalf of the Northern Territory Government.
