The Communications Council Unveils New Identity

The Communications Council today unveiled the new industry body’s brand identity, including a striking new logo that presents the Council as the new “voice” for the communications industry.

The logo and identity were created by Sydney design studio Toko in response to a collaborative brief provided by representatives of the Council’s founding members – the Advertising Federation of Australia (Anthony Freedman), the Australasian Writers and Art Directors
Association (Richard Maddocks) and the Account Planning Group (Jeremy Nicholas).

“The new identity reflects the many and varied industry voices that The Communications Council will represent, whilst capturing the core principle of creativity that binds us all together.

We also wanted to ensure the identity, like our industry, struck the right balance of professionalism and playfulness.” said Chairman, Anthony Freedman.

The core logo for the Communications Council has been designed as a speech bubble in the shape of the letter “C”. A suite of different colours has been developed to illustrate the breadth of the organization, with a nod to the diversity of personalities included under one brand.

“Designing an identity that is creative, forward looking, interesting, and intriguing, whilst at the same time able to garner respect in company boardrooms and in Canberra was a tough challenge. The various elements of the new look form a graphic representation as diverse as its members, constantly evolving, clearly representing the Council’s fresh and exciting intentions.” said Deputy Chairman of the Council, Richard Maddocks.

Following the establishment of The Communications Council and the design of the new identity, AWARD and the APG will retain their own identities - given the strength of those brands within the industry. They will continue on as stand-alone identities, under the overarching
Communications Council brand.

The Council officially comes into existence on January 1, 2010.
